We’ll be including Health Pupdates right here on DDG!
These “Pupdates” are health and wellness alerts. If there’s a flu bug, kennel cough or dog virus in the area, you’ll be the first to know. DDG staff will post the update here giving as much detail as possible, plus making any additional updates as the illness progresses or declines.

Cases of the Canine Influenza have recently occurred in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and now there are reported cases in Minnesota. Many vets are encouraging dog owners to protect their dogs by getting the Dog Flu vaccine and DDG supports that position. Unfortunately, this vaccine is not fool proof but is a 2 part vaccine helping to prevent against the H3N8 & H3N2 strains. We recommend speaking with your Veterinarian for more information regarding the vaccine.
Symptoms are very similar to other illnesses – coughing, lethargy, lack of appetite and nasal discharge. These basic symptoms can also lead to more serious illnesses especially in the young, old or immune deficient. We ask that all of our customers please be very diligent in watching for symptoms and leave your dog at home if you notice any of them. If you have recently adopted your dog through a rescue, we ask that you please wait 30 days before bringing them to DDG.
We know there is a lot of hype in the media and that can get scary. We want to assure you that even though the Dog Flu is contagious, the percentage of the dogs that have died from this is extremely small and generally there were underlying issues in those dogs to begin with. We will continue to be vigilant in doing our part and should the Dog Flu become a real threat in the Twin Cities DDG may choose to require the Dog Flu vaccine from all of our clients.
Please contact your veterinarian for more up to date information.
